03/07 Happy days
I’ve had my fair share of frustrations this month, again dealing with bureaucratic bull. The English have solidified the new law that South African’s need a visa to step on their soil. And in true governmental fashion, just to make it more fun, the only place in Italy where you can apply for one is in Rome! Ooola Madonna!
This month, on the school outings list, we took ‘Obi One’ a 57’ cat for a sail and visited some workshops and stuff. Mostly not uber exciting but I must say I was very impressed with the design studio of Nuvolari-Lenard.
There have been few big calendar events but this month has been massive on the personal front! I decided to actively challenge myself. I took on a project for school that I disliked on principle, a little motorboat for Dubai. Also, I chose to work with people I didn’t think I’d get along with. And you know what, it’s going great!
LeeJ came to visit. Just like in the movies. He literally rocked up on my doorstep, not holding a bunch of flowers but season 3 of HOUSE. We had a great weekend and for a moment, lazing on the grass in the gardens of St Elena, I understood how Venice deceives so many visitors. She’s a crafty one and for that, I like her.
Mom and Dad were here too. They’ve finally returned to ‘not-so-sunny’ South Africa. They had a great time and I loved seeing them and particularly seeing them like this. They were so happy. They finally got to meet LeeJ and we found a little English pub called the Devil’s Forest and watched some football. I think it went well.
I’m now something of a local at Devil’s and have been keeping abreast with the goings on in the Lion’s Tour and the Confed. Cup. I often go with Sinan, one of the Turks from school. He’s quite cool actually, albeit from Asia! Hehe.
The other night was study group at our place. The 8 of us ended up going to Zattere for a drink after and stumbled upon a little blues come jazz concert on the waterfront. We had spritz and joked about. Selin and I were in a mood for dancing, Mark fell asleep (of course) and the boys were as they should be… just being boys. It was the first time that I felt something akin to the good times we had in the Bahamas.
The weather’s been wonderful and as it turns out, Venice also knows a thing or two about thunder storms! I adore them, they remind me so much of the Highveld back home.
Sometimes when you whisper something to the world and just take a moment to listen, it screams back at you! I made a deal with her, my world. Kind of like when you prayed to Jesus as a kid. Except I was in the shower and not on my knees with my little hands pressed together. I told her that I’d lighten up and allow myself to enjoy whatever she felt fit to send my way.
Well, she sent friends and family and joy and sunshine… and love!

Apologies for the lack of pictures... I've neglected to take many this month. I'm on it and will be sure to post some in next month's entry.
