08/12 November's come and gone
The season has been quite slow lately, what with this whole ‘economic crisis’ and all. So the focus has been on maintenance and marketing.
I've learned so much about the boats and would you believe it… Photoshop (but that comes later). I can service winches, tune a rig, design and build parts out of carbon fiber and ‘jerry rig’ a floating stereo/chilly bin out of duct tape and a plastic kitchen bin. We don't always have the tools in our workshop (a repurposed shipping container) so LeatherSluts (sold as Leatherman) and bits of rope are indispensable tools. Re marketing, we’ve redone up the brochures, the web site and our uniforms – that’s where I come in. I’ve had to send vector graphics over to Italy so that the guys at SLAM can make use some “gucci” gear. Not bad, I guess and we do look the part all dressed in fire engine red and slate.
Halloween was a no go… The weather didn’t allow taking the boats to Atlantis and LeeJ was a super sad puppy so we skipped the parties that night. Not to worry, November brought more than enough opportunity to make up for the missed party. Something like 12 of us have our b-days in Nov, so the whole month has been one big drink really. Adam was probably hardest hit by his bottle of Jim B. He was sucking on it like it had a teat! Needless to say he was man down for 2 days after his birthday. I baked 2 cakes for mine to take to work and still got thrown in the water! Well, I guess that is the rule.
We also squeezed in another trip to Rose Island, the Carribean Rugby Sevens tournament and the BASRA ball. The ball (a fundraiser for the local NSRI) was looking to be a headache as I had to find a ‘little black number’ for the occasion. No easy task in Nassau but I managed at the eleventh hour. With all the free booze, the ball turned out just fine and proved to be a different kind of headache all together when we had to sail the next day!
So that’s been this month… two pampered boats, pretty red polos and a bunch of broken Scorpios. Let’s hope we get some sailing in and survive the festive season unscathed. I’m determined to find some other entertainment on this island other than boats and drinking…
Thanx for all the birthday wishes.
